Franken Knights
The Franken Knights (founded as Rothenburg Knights ) are an American football team from Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Franconia in Bavaria. The Knights play in the 2014 season in Germany's top league, the GFL South.
History
The Knights were founded in the fall of 1983 as Rothenburg Knights. In their first season in 1984 they entered the second division of the South. Already in its second season reached the summit in the first division where they played two seasons. Then they dismounted again and spent a few years in the second division, before 1992, the renewed rise succeeded. In the season of 1993, was easily the way into the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The 1994 season was not as successful, and they lost in the relegation against Stuttgart Scorpions. Athletic relegated to the second division, but the class were the Knights, who moved up from the season 1995 renamed Franken Knights and to Würzburg by the subsequent extension of the first league hold. With a newly formed team but was the league not to create and you had back in 1996 to compete in the second division.
After the 1996 season, they moved back to Rothenburg and played until 1999 continued in the second division. There you could take the title in 1999 and beat in the promotion relegation the Hanau Hornets. Thus, the Franken Knights were again top notch from the 2000 season. In the five seasons until 2004, they reached the quarter- finals for the German Bowl four times. The most successful season in 2003 was the one finished in second place of the GFL -South and so could deliver the quarter-finals at home.
After the 2004 season the club moved for economic reasons voluntarily from the GFL back and went from 2005 back in the GFL 2 -south at the start. 2009 reached the summit in the GFL.
Martin Habelt took over from 2012, the Office of Head Coach at the Franken Knights. As of the 2014 season Randall Watkins is Head Coach.

Youth Team
The Youth Team of the Knights there since 1992. The youth played since that time almost always successful in the highest youth league. Multiple could be reached the semi-finals at the Junior Bowl. Twice (2004, 2005) even final itself, but in which one had to concede defeat each of the youth of the Dusseldorf Panthers. From 2001 to 2007 the team played in the GFLJ, in 2008 in the youth league performance Bavaria.
