Badminton Scotland

Badminton Scotland is the supreme national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Scotland. The association was founded in 1907 as the Scottish Badminton Union ( SBU).

History

Badminton has been played in Scotland for the first time in the 1880s in St. Andrews. The game was spread primarily by returning officers from India and Dr. WB McTier. In 1900 there were the first club match between St. Andrews and Aberdeen, where rapidly shifted also the center of the sport. The Scottish Badminton Union ( SBU ) 1907 was launched. In the same year, the first Scottish Open championship. 1910 launched the international match series against Ireland in 1922 against England. In the season 1927/1928 for the first time inter-group team competitions were conducted three years earlier than the neighbor England. 1934 were aware of the Scottish Badminton Union founding member of the Badminton World Federation, at that time as International Badminton Federation. The Scottish Badminton Union in 1968 then known also a member of the continental governing body Badminton Europe, as European Badminton Union. Beginning of the new millennium, the association was renamed Badminton Scotland.
