Bahira

Sergius Bahira ( Syriac -Aramaic: ܒ ܚ ܝ ܪ ܐ ) was around the year 600 a Syrian Nestorian Christian monk who lived in Bosra, a town in southern Syria in the monastery of Christians.

Some sources give the name Dscherdschis, Georgius, Sergius, Sarjisan, Bu airah, Bohaà ¯ ra Bahira or Behira means in Aramaic " Excellent ".

According to the Bahira legend in the biography of Muhammad from the early 8th century, he is the Seal of Prophethood have ( a birthmark ) between Muhammad's shoulders and the characters who had allegedly also Jews and Christians in their writings seen. He is said to have the about 12 -year-old Mohammed predicted his prophetic vocation, and was regarded as a teacher of Muhammad.

Sergius is mentioned by Peter of Cluny, in a letter to Bernard of Clairvaux in 1141 to about Muhammad.

The American Zionist Richard Gottheil wrote about 1898 a Christian Bahira Legend, a translation from Syriac based Eduard Sachaus copy of the recording of Isho'yahb (Arabic: Mar Isho'yabh, in short: Mar Yahb, Marhab ).
