Bahrain Petroleum Company

The Bahrain Petroleum Company ( BAPCO ); (Arabic شركة نفط البحرين Sarikat Naft al - Baḥrayn ) is a company that was founded in 1929 by the Standard Oil Company of California.

In 1932 the first oil and in 1948 the first gas well was found. In 1934 the first oil was shipped. The former oil well is now a museum.

The company is located in its present form, 100 percent owned by the government of the island Kingdom of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. It is engaged in the search, development and finally the processing and marketing of oil and gas and related products.

The Company has its own refinery, which can process 250,000 barrels of oil per day via storage capacities for more than 14 million barrels, a marketing terminal and a marine terminal where the products can be loaded onto ships.

The company's customers are found primarily in the Middle East, India, the Far East, not least in Africa. 95 percent of the oil and the products made from it are exported (30% in the GCC countries, 30 % to Africa, 18% to Japan and Asia, 6% in Europe - 2005).
