Bakony

The Bakony and the Bakony [ bɒkoɲ - ] ( German as " Buchenwald" ) is a hillside in central Hungary Veszprém County north of Lake Balaton, which was created some 3.8 million years ago by volcanic activity. In Bakony is the wine region Badacsony. The region that is part of the Hungarian Central Mountains was inhabited until 1945 mainly of the Danube Swabians. Major cities in the Bakony are, inter alia, Veszprém ( Wesprim, Weissenbrunn ), Ajka ( Eikau ) Várpalota, Zirc and Mór (peat ). The mountain consists mainly of limestone and dolomite. Furthermore, bauxite, manganese and lignite occur. The highest elevation is 704 m Kőris.

In some places there are still old yew stocks.
