Balkan Beat Box

Balkan Beat Box is a world music group that was founded by Ori Kaplan, Tamir Muskat and Tomer Yosef.

History and style

The co-founders Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat both grew up in Israel, but first met in Brooklyn. Both grew up with music. Kaplan was a klezmer clarinetist and played among others, Gogol Bordello, while Muskat was a drummer in a punk band. The two developed a very own style by combining musical sounds of Jewish klezmer sounds of the Mediterranean and the Balkans with hip-hop and dancehall beats. The group is heavily influenced by Jamaican dub, with other influences in their musical hybrid are. The objectives of Balkan Beat Box is old and traditional musical traditions merge with those of HipHop to create a new musical form, with which one can visitors from clubs or discos were responsive. Balkan Beat Box understand their music as an attempt to support peace and international understanding.

The first album Balkan Beat Box was released by Shantel Essay Recordings 2005. In 2007 the second album followed entitled Nu -Med. Both albums received worldwide attention. While the first album focused more on Mediterranean sounds, includes a second album and more Arab and Spanish influences.

The band is called Boban Marković, Rachid Taha, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Manu Chao, and Charlie Parker as an influence donors their music.

About Uri Kinrot and Tomer Yosef also exist relations with the Israeli klezmer rock band Boom Pam, who - as well publish with Essay Recordings in Frankfurt - as Balkan Beat Box on their first album.

Her song " hermético " was sampled by Jason Derulo for the song " Talk Dirty ".
