Balkan Brass Band

As Serbian brass music, or as a Balkan Brass or Trubači music (also Serbian Brass ) known, a form of brass band music and music direction is internationally referred to, which was created in the 19th century in Serbia and there enjoys high popularity. History

In the 19th century a new genre, which has its roots in the Serbian folk music originated in Central Serbia. Already in 1335 a Serbian trumpet player name Dragan was mentioned in Dubrovnik, which originally came from Prizren. Several Serbian church frescoes from the late Middle Ages also show trumpeter.

The trumpet is in addition to the gusle and Gajda, one of the most important musical instruments of the Serbian folk music in Serbia experienced a rebirth in the 19th century and evolved to Serbian brass music.

A typical brass band or orchestra of the Serbian Brass consists primarily of brass instruments such as trumpet, flugelhorn, tenor horn, tuba and drums, saxophones sometimes be used. The biggest festival of the Serbian Brass Music is the Trumpet Festival in Guca central Serbia, one of the largest folk music festivals in the world with up to 500 000 visitors. Outside of the Balkans the Serbian brass music especially through the films of Emir Kusturica, a film director from Serbia, and the film music by Goran Bregovic and Boban artists like Marković was popular.
