Ballon d'Or 2008

The 53 Ballon d'Or (French for Golden Ball ) of the magazine France Football has been awarded in 2008 for the second time for the world's best footballer of the year. From 1956 to 2006, this trophy was awarded European Footballer of the Year. It is not identical with the allocated by FIFA since 1991 Award World Player of the Year.

Voting procedure

The prize is awarded by a currently 96 - member jury, which is composed as follows:

  • Ever a sports writer from the countries of the 53 UEFA member associations
  • Ever a sports writer from the current 43 countries of those non-European organizations that have participated in at least one World Cup finals.

Each judge awarded to five players from the set by the France- Football - editors list of 30 proposals 5, 4, 3, 2 or one point. The total power of the player is to be assessed in the respective calendar year. If two or more players get the highest score in the aggregate, there would be a runoff.

Result

In 16th place was Franck Ribéry (Bayern Munich) (7 points ), Michael Ballack ( Chelsea) reached # 19 (4 points). Munich's Luca Toni was one of five players who did not receive a single point.

Remarkable

  • Cristiano Ronaldo was evaluated on all 96 ballots, including 77 times in the first rank. Messi was at least 90, Torres 63 votes still in consideration.
  • In addition to the winners, seven other players were awarded a total of 19 juries with the highest score: Messi six -, five - Torres, Xavi three -, two - Casillas, Villa, Senna and Buffon once each. In contrast, the sixth-placed Arshavin had to show for best result three second places; however, he gave 37 juries at least one point.
  • Seven editors called every five total first, but only the Saudi Arabian jury in the exact order in the overall standings. The others were: Australia, China, Israel, Kuwait, New Zealand and Spain. More 38 Judges awarded to four of the top five points.
  • Conversely, eleven were on ballots only two of these five best: Belgium, Bosnia - Herzegovina, Brazil, DR Congo, Macedonia, Malta, Nigeria, North Korea, San Marino, Turkey and Uruguay.
