Bamberg is a town in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It is the county seat of Bamberg County.

Bamberg is located on Highways 301, 601 and 78 A few kilometers outside of the city is Bamberg County Airport. The nearest train station is seven miles distant Denmark (South Carolina).

The history of settlement in the area dates back to the time before the presence of white settlers. The Edisto, a tribe of Muskogee, lived here. The city's name is derived not directly from the German city of Bamberg from, but goes back to Major William Seaborn Bamberg, who came in 1840 to Bamberg and whose grandfather was German. By 1890, the city grew significantly due to the flourishing cotton trade.
