Bamberg County, South Carolina

Bamberg County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bamberg.

Geography

The County is located south of the geographic center of South Carolina, is in the southwest about 40 km from Georgia and has an area of 1024 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Orangeburg County, Dorchester County, Colleton County, Hampton County, Allendale County and Barnwell County.

History

Bamberg County was formed in 1897. It was named after William Seaborn Bamberg, co-founder of the city of Lowery's Turnout. Another version says that it was named after the German immigrants from Bamberg.
