Hampton County, South Carolina

Hampton County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hampton.

Geography

The County is located in the south of South Carolina, bounded on the southwest by Georgia and has an area of 1457 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bamberg County, Colleton County, Beaufort County, Jasper County, Effingham County ( Georgia), Screven County ( Georgia) and Allendale County.

History

Hampton County was formed in 1787. It was named after Wade Hampton III, an American politician, U.S. Senator and Governor of South Carolina.
