Colleton County, South Carolina

Colleton County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Walterboro.

Geography

The County is located in the south of South Carolina, bordered with its south-western tip of the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​2935 square kilometers, of which 199 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Orangeburg County, Dorchester County, Charleston County, Beaufort County, Hampton County, Allendale County and Bamberg County.

History

Colleton County was formed in 1798. It was named after John Colleton, one of the co-owners of the province of Carolina.
