Oconee County (South Carolina)

Oconee County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Valhalla.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest corner of South Carolina, bordered to the north by North Carolina to the southwest Georgia and has an area of 1745 square kilometers, of which 125 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pickens County, Anderson County, Hart County (Georgia), Franklin County ( Georgia), Stephens County ( Georgia), Habersham County ( Georgia), Rabun County ( Georgia), Macon County ( North Carolina), Jackson County ( North Carolina) and Transylvania County ( North Carolina).

History

Oconee County was formed in 1868. It was named after an American Indian expression.
