Lancaster County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lancaster.

Geography

The County is located in the north of South Carolina, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1438 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Mecklenburg County ( North Carolina), Union County (North Carolina), Chesterfield County, Kershaw County, Fairfield County, York County and Chester County.

History

Lancaster County was formed in 1798. It was named after the Pennsylvania Lancaster County.
