Screven County, Georgia

The Screven County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sylvania.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme east of Georgia, on the border of South Carolina and has an area of ​​1698 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Effingham County, Bulloch County, Jenkins County and Burke County.

History

Screven County was formed on December 14, 1793 14 County of Georgia from parts of Burke County and Effingham County. It was named for General James Screven, who was mortally wounded in the Revolutionary War. From the Screven County was formed later, the Bulloch County and the Jenkins County.
