Greene County (Georgia)

The Greene County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greensboro.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Georgia and is in the northeast about 60 miles from South Carolina. It has an area of ​​1052 square kilometers, of which 47 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Oglethorpe County, Taliaferro County, Hancock County, Putnam County, Morgan County and Oconee County.

History

Greene County was formed on February 3, 1786 as 11 County in Georgia from parts of Washington County. It was named for General Nathanael Greene, a hero of the American Revolutionary War.
