Grady County (Georgia)

The Grady County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cairo, named after the Egyptian city of Cairo or to the city of Cairo in Illinois.

Geography

The County is located in southern Georgia on the northern border of Florida and has an area of ​​1192 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Thomas County, Decatur County and Mitchell County.

History

Grady County was formed on August 17, 1905 from portions of Decatur County and Thomas County. It was named for Henry W. Grady, a lawyer and author of the Atlanta Constitution. He was also named lawyer of the new South.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Grady County 23 659 people in 8,797 households and 6,509 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer.
