Worth County (Georgia)
The Worth County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sylvester.
Geography
The County is located in south-central Georgia, is located in the south about 80 miles from Florida's northern border and has an area of 1488 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Crisp County, Turner County, Tift County, Colquitt County, Mitchell County, Dougherty County and Lee County.
History
Worth County was formed on December 20, 1853 from parts of Dooly County and Irwin County. It was named for General William J. Worth, who fought in the Tex- Mexican War.

According to the census of 2000, there were 21 967 people in Worth County. Of these, 208 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 8,106 households and 6,120 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 68.69 percent White, 29.57 percent Black or African American, 0.36 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.61 percent from other races groups; 0.55 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.90 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 8,106 households out of which 36.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.7 percent were married couples living together, 15.7 percent were single mothers and 24.5 percent were non-families. 21.5 percent of all households and 9.0 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.12 persons.
28.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.1 percent between 18 to 24, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 92.0 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,384, and the median income for a family $ 38,887. Males have a median income of $ 31,668, women $ 20,950. The per capita income was $ 15,856. 18.5 percent of the population and 14.7 percent of families are below the poverty line.
