Wilcox County (Georgia)

The Wilcox County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Abbeville.

Geography

The County is located a few kilometers south of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 993 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Dodge County, Telfair County, Ben Hill County, Turner County, Crisp County, Dooly County and Pulaski County.

History

Wilcox County was formed on 22 December 1857 as 124 County Georgia from portions of Dooly County, of Irwin County and Pulaski County. It was named after General Mark Wilcox, a co-founder of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
