Union County (Georgia)

The Union County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Blairsville.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Georgia, bordering North Carolina and has an area of 852 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Towns County, White County, Lumpkin County and Fannin County.

History

Union County was formed as the 88th county in Georgia from the Indian territory of the Cherokee on 3 December 1832. It was named not for his support of the North in the Civil War, but according to the Union party, which existed 28 years before the Civil War broke out.
