Word origin

The foreign word was borrowed in the 18th century from the French word " bandage " which actually means "link union (of people) " and even on French " bande " back (compare band).

In horses bandages are used as protection for the fetlock and cannon bone. Contrary to the mistaken belief of many riders, however, the bandage here no supporting function.
