Bannberscheid

Bannberscheid is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Wirges.

Geographical location

The village is north of Montabaur in about 270 m altitude in a Meadow with gradually increasing slope, within the low mountains of the Westerwald, which is framed by high Westerwald and the Montabaurer ridge.

History

Bannberscheid was first mentioned in 1211 as Berenscheit documented.

From 1895 to 1897, the village church was built. The village was electrified in 1921 and 1937 connected to the sewerage system. Until the 1960s, the clay mining was the main source of income.
