Bao Zheng

Bao Zheng (Chinese包拯, Pinyin Bao Zheng, W.-G. Pao Cheng, * 999, † 1062), was a judge of the Sung dynasty.

During his service he achieved great popularity through the facilitation of toll charges and socially liberal economic policies. He led several lawsuits against state officials and sentenced several corrupt nobles and officials to death. After his death he was brought in litigation victims in order to obtain a favorable judgment. Many cities appointed Bao Zheng to their city god. 400 years after his death, he was employed as an ideal judge judge different stories. He was in adventure stories to Judge Bao [ Wade- Giles: Pao ] Due to its popularity mystifies. Bert Brecht took him as a model for the Caucasian Chalk Circle.
