Baol

Baol (also Bawol ) was a state in what is now Senegal.

1555 Baol to split off from the realm of Wolof. First ruler was Ji the Great.

The capital was Dioubel. The king was entitled Teigne or teen. The territory extended from the capital to the ocean and included the cities of Touba and MBACKE. To the north lay Cayor, in the south Sine. In addition to the Wolof and Serer there were also some Fulbe.

For a common defense is Baol temporarily united with Cayor. Significant was the horse breeding in Baol.

1859 began the first French attack. 1874 the largest part of the state was conquered by the French. Louis Faidherbe completed the conquest of 1895.
