Barbara Jeziorkowska

Barbara ( Baśka ) Jeziorkowska [ jɛʂɔkowska ] (later Wołodyjowska ) is a fictional character of the historical epic Pan Henryk Sienkiewicz Wołodyjowski of. She is the female protagonist, an orphan who is marrying the noble Michał Wołodyjowski.

In Jerzy Hoffman's 1969 film adaptation Barbara is played by Magdalena Zawadzka.

Life story in the novel

Barbara Jeziorkowska 's date of birth is not mentioned in the novel. At the beginning it was probably about 18 years old. She was an orphan in the care of Stolnik Makowiecki, Michał Wołodyjowski 's brother in law. In 1668 they came together with Krystyna Drohojowska to Warsaw and settled in Ketling's house. They met Michał Wołodyjowski and fell in love with him. Although Zagłoba tried to arrange their wedding both, presented Wołodyjowski Krystyna a marriage proposal. The girl was in love with but Wołodyjowski 's friend Kettling. As Wołodyjowski found this out, he let them be happy together. Then told Barbara Wołodyjowski that she loves him. Both married.

In 1672 Barbara and her husband to go Chreptiów, near Kamjanez - Podilskyj. They met with Azja, a Tartar, who serves as a soldier Poland. The man falls in love with Barbara. She knew nothing about it, she thought, he would want to marry Ewa Nowowiejska. Azja Barbara tried to kidnap, but he failed, because she managed to escape on a horse. She wandered a few days around long and found again after Chreptiów. She was out of breath and sick but saved.

Character description

Barbara is a young, petite girl. She has light, short hair and a beautiful face. It is lively, impulsive and cheerfully. She's not afraid, Wołodyjowski to tell that she loves him. Baśka is also good-natured and caring for the soldiers of her husband. She is innocent and at times even a little naive. She does not look that Azja seek for her, she believes that is in love with Ewa Nowowiejska and wants you to arrange his marriage with her. But Barbara also shows a lot of courage, as Azja she tries to kidnap. She is in character the whole contrary to Krystyna Drohojowska.
