Bärenplatz

The Bears Place is a central location in the city of Bern ( Switzerland ) located place. It flows to the northwest in the Hospital Lane, north on the orphanage place in the Northeast in the market street, in the southeast in the Amthausgasse, in the south to the federal court and in the southwest in the Schauplatzgasse.

History

The course was built over the backfilled trench in front of the third city wall on its north part of the first Bear Pit was established in 1513. It was not until 1578 disappeared the grave bridge in front of the cage tower, a year later, the southern part of the trench was filled. This part of the square was called in the wake of hay and wood market. 1627 Ross market was relocated there. After laying the bear pits before the Golatenmatttor in 1763 was called the northern part of the square timber market and the middle part of the cattle market. Until 1823 then was called the entire place Upper Course, only in the middle of the 19th century came up with the name Bärenplatz. The place was paved in 1864. ( Left off as one the old casino ) From 1895 to around 1900 ( when they created the Parliament building) belonged to the old casino space even for Bärenplatz.
