Location

The market alley opens to the west into the Hospital Lane, in the northwest of the capitol city, and in the Waaghausgasse, in the north in the Zeughauspassage and in protecting streets, in the northeast on the Kornhausplatz, in the east to the Bim Clock Tower, in the southeast of the theater square, in the south in the Imperial House passage and the southwest of the Bärenplatz.

History

The first paving of the alley consisted of clay and stone. It turned in bad weather in a veritable swamp. Along the arcades, so boards paths had to be put to the use of the soggy streets soil. In the late 15th century was called the Lane New City, this term remained partially up to 1830. The first actual paving of the street market dates back to the year 1399.
