Bärenstein (Ore Mountains)

Berggaststätte with lookout tower

The Bears stone is a mountain in the Ore Mountains with 898 m height. It is located about two kilometers north of the town bears the same stone. The mountain range is part of the conservation area Baerenstein.

Geology

As erosion remnant of a former lava flow it is like its neighbors Pöhlberg and disc mountain that towers over both of them, mostly from basalt. All three surveys are mesas. There is a disused quarry, which shows the formation of basalt columns on the north side.

View

From the 30 -meter high observation tower of the mountain guest house, the view extends to the nearby neighborhood of Frankfurt Klínovec ( wedge mountain) and Fichtelbergbahn. In the east the mountain drops steeply into the valley of Pöhlbaches, in the West Dam Cranzahl lies at the foot of the mountain. To the southeast is a look at the Mednik ( Hubel copper ) and the ridges of the Bohemian Ore Mountains, in the north of the mountain town of Annaberg and the Pöhlberg.

Touristic development

On the bear stone is a summit trail with several rewarding viewpoints and a mountain inn with lookout tower. The foundation stone for the building took place on 1 May 1913 and the inauguration on November 30, 1913, instead of communicating with the 25- year anniversary of the Erzgebirgszweigvereins Baerenstein. 1937 the building was extended and in 1992/93 thoroughly renovated.

On Baerenstein a ski lift, toboggan and ski trails provide good conditions for winter sports.
