Barnave, Drôme

Barnave is a commune in the Drôme department in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the district, the, founded the canton of Luc -en- Diois and the 2001 Local Government Association Diois.

Geography

The 170 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring Barnave municipality located in the natural landscape and historical region Diois, about 13 kilometers south of the Drôme, in a tributary of the River, a tributary of the Rhone. In the northeast, the municipality of Barnave has a small share of the Drôme valley. History

The first mention of Barnave dates from the year 1227 as Barnava. It is believed that the name is a mix of Celtic and Gallic roots and literally means height above a steep valley.

Economy and infrastructure

Main source of employment in Barnave is the wine. Primarily on the inclined south slopes thrive grapes of Muscat and Clairette Blanche. The vines in Barnave are part of the Clairette de Die appellation for sparkling wines. Other agricultural products in Barnave are cereals, walnuts, wool, honey and fruit. In the northeast of Barnave the trunk road passes over the crest to Gap and Sisteron. A road link via the 1040 m high Col de Pennes in southwest. The nearest train stations are in the and Luc -en- Diois on the railway line Livron- Aspres -sur -Buëch.
