Baron Auckland

Baron Auckland is a hereditary British title of nobility, which is run by a branch of the Eden family. He was ever created once in the Peerage of Ireland and the Peerage of Great Britain.

Ceremonies

The title was first created in 1789 in the Peerage of Ireland for the diplomat William Eden. This had previously been among others ambassador to France and the Netherlands.

1793, the title of Baron Auckland, of West Auckland, he was also awarded in the county of Durham. This Barony belongs to the Peerage of Great Britain and enabled the Baron to take a seat in the House of Lords.

More titles

The second Baron was a prominent politician and among other things, Viceroy of India. It was in 1839 created Earl of Auckland and Baron Eden, of Norwood, Surrey, levied. Both titles went out ten years later, when the Earl died unmarried.

The barons also available in the succession to the baronetcy Eden of West Auckland, because the first Baron was a son of the third Baronet. This title is currently held by the Conservative politician John Eden, Baron Eden of Winton.
