Baron Henley

Baron Henleyist a hereditary British title of nobility which has been awarded twice. It is currently being run by a branch of the Eden family.

Ceremonies

The title was first awarded in 1760 in the Peerage of Great Britain to Sir Robert Henley. This was Lord Chancellor at the time. When his son died in 1786 without a male descendant, the title became extinct.

The second ceremony took place in 1799 in the Peerage of Ireland, as the husband of the youngest daughter of the first Baron of the first ceremony Sir Morton Eden to Baron Henley, of Chardstock in the County of Dorset, has been charged. This was British Ambassador at various European courts.

More titles

The first Baron was first awarded in 1764 was elevated to Earl of Northington. He then led the barony as a subsidiary title. The earldom became extinct in 1786.

The third Baron of the second ceremony was over 15 years Member of the House of Commons. This was possible as was connected with the Irish barony no automatic seat in the House of Lords. In respect of his merit he was in 1885 created Baron Northington, of Watford in the County of Northampton, raised. This dignity belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and resulted in the respective Baron automatically had a seat in the House of Lords.
