Oliver Eden, 8th Baron Henley

Oliver Michael Robert Eden, 8th Baron Henley ( born November 22, 1953) is a British politician of the Conservative Party and a member of the House of Lords.

He is the eldest son and fourth child of Michael Eden, 7th Baron Henley, 5th Baron Northington, and Nancy Mary Walton. In 1975 he completed his studies at Durham University with a Bachelor of Arts. In 1977 he was admitted as a barrister of the Middle Temple. When his father died on 20 December 1977 he inherited his title of nobility. In contrast to the Irish title of Baron Henley was the title of Baron Northington, who belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom, combined with a hereditary seat in the House of Lords.

Under Margaret Thatcher, he served from 1989 to July 1990 in the House of Lords as Whip. He he was Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State in the Ministry of Social Affairs and retained this position under John Major. In 1993 he moved to the Department of Labor before he moved to the Ministry of Defence in 1994. In 1995 he was promoted to Minister of State and served in the regrouped education and Ministry of Labour, the Conservative government to the general election, lost in 1997.

The House of Lords Act 1999, Lord Henley's direct hereditary claim to a seat in the House of Lords was abolished. However, he was chosen as one of those 92 hereditary peers who were allowed to retain their seat in the House of Lords.

After the general election in 2010 he was appointed Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the Cabinet Cameron. On September 16, 2011, he was Minister of State at the Home Office with responsibility for crime prevention and reducing anti- social behavior, he was the successor of retiring for health reasons Baroness Browning.

Since October 11, 1984, he is married to Caroline Patricia Sharp. With her he has three sons and a daughter.
