Baron Milford

Baron Milford is a hereditary British title of nobility, was previously awarded a total of three times, always to members of the Philipps family.

Ceremonies

The title was awarded in 1776 to Sir Richard Philipps, 7th Baronet for the first time in the Peerage of Ireland. This had previously been a member of the House of Commons. The title became extinct, as Philip died in 1823 without a male descendant.

The second ceremony as Baron Milford, of Picton Castle in the County of Pembroke, in 1847 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom to Richard Bulkeley Philipps. In this case, the title became extinct with the death of the first Baron in 1857.

In 1939 the third ceremony, again in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, now as Baron Milford, of Llanstephan in the County of Radnor, to Sir Laurence Philipps, 1st Baronet. He had previously held high positions in the Welsh university system.

The Baron of the first ceremony was like the father of the first Baron of the third ceremony Baronet, of Picton Castle in the County of Pembroke, was. The current Baron therefore is the successor of this title, which belongs to the Baronetage of England and is now borne by the relevant Viscount St Davids.

The first Baron of the third ceremony had been raised as early as 1919 a baronet, of Llanstephan in the County of Radnor. This title belongs to the Baronetage of the United Kingdom and is led by the respective Baron.
