Viscount St Davids

Viscount St Davids, of Lydstep Haven in the County of Pembroke, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is run by the family of Philip.

The family seat was a long time Picton Castle near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Award

The title was awarded in 1918 John Wynford Philipps. This had been for twenty years a member of the House of Commons.

Subordinate title

The first Viscount was already in 1908 in the County of Pembroke, raised to Baron St Davids, of Roch Castle. This title, which also belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom is now operated as a subordinate item.

The erstete Viscount married in 1916 Elizabeth Frances Abney -Hastings. This was at their request, in 1921 the then dormant baronies Hungerford ( created 1426), Strange ( created in 1299 ) and de Moleyns ( created in 1445 ) awarded, which can also be transmitted through the female line all if the title holder has no sons. Since the death of the Viscountess in 1974 are the titles that all belong to the peerage of England, performed as subordinate title of Viscountswürde.

More titles

The family as early as 1621 bore the title of Baronet, of Picton Castle in the County of Pembroke. This title, which belongs to the Baronetage of England, is still run by the respective Viscount.

The seventh Baronet, who had also been a member of the House of Commons for many years, had been raised in 1776 for Baron Milford in the Peerage of Ireland. This title became extinct when he died in 1823 without leaving a son.
