Baron Oranmore and Browne

Baron Oranmore and Browne, of Carrabrowne Castle in the County of Galway and of Castle Macgarrett in the County of Mayo, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of Ireland, which is run by the family Browne.

The family seat was temporarily Mereworth Castle in Kent, England.

Award

The title was created in 1836 for Dominick Browne. He had previously represented for many years the County Mayo in the House of Commons.

Another title

The third Baron was awarded in 1926 the title of Baron Mereworth, of Mereworth Castle in the County of Kent, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. This he got, except by virtue of the Irish title, to the House of Lords Act 1999 an automatic seat in the House of Lords.
