Baron Stanley

The title of Baron Stanley was first awarded in the Peerage of England in 1456 to Sir Thomas Stanley. His son was raised in 1485 to the Earl of Derby, to the death of the fifth Earl in 1594 both titles remained united. Since he died without male heirs, the barony rested. Only in 1921 the title was again by Edith Abney -Hastings, 12th Countess of Loudoun, claimed the succession was with her death in 1960 but again dormant.
