Barry Cryer

Barry Charles Cryer OBE ( born March 23, 1935 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England ) is a British writer and comedian. He founded the Windmill Theatre in London, a club, have been shown in the comedy sketches between nude survivor picture shows.

Cryer wrote, among other things, Jack Benny, George Burns, Tommy Cooper, Kenny Everett, David Frost, Bob Hope and Richard Pryor.

Cryer also wrote episodes for the television series Doctor in the House.

Career

In 1958, Cryer a number-one hit in Finland with the song The Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley. For contractual reasons Wooley song was never released in Scandinavia and it was Cryer's song. The song spent three weeks, the number one.

In the 1970s, Cryer appeared with Tim Brooke- Taylor and John Junkin in the BBC radio series Hello, Cheeky! , which consisted basically of three performers who make jokes about each other. In addition, the appeared in the TV comedy series The Steam Video Company. He was also the host of the ITV comedy game show Joker's Wild and had a role in All You Need Is Cash, a Verulkungsdokumentarfilm about the band the Rutles, which parodied the Beatles.

He was with Willie Rushton in the show Two Old Farts in the Night on tour, which also appeared on video and That Reminds Me by Rushton's death. He is also famous for his after-dinner speeches.

After a brief period as host in the first season was Cryer player in the BBC radio show I'm Sorry I Have not a Clue, which has been running since 1972. In addition, he writes and plays in 'll Have Had Your Tea with Graeme Garden.

He has written an autobiography titled That Reminds Me, and a book with various anecdotes Pigs Can Fly.

2001 he has been awarded the OBE.

In 2005, he was with Barry Cryer: The First Farewell Tour (German: The first farewell tour ) on tour.
