Barry Hughart

Barry Hughart ( born March 13, 1934 in Peoria, Illinois) is an American fantasy author.

Life

He studied English and earned during his service in the United States Air Force in the Far East deep impressions of the culture and literature of China, which he incorporated in his Master Li trilogy. Barry Hughart lives in Tucson, Arizona.

The Master Li detective novels in " an ancient China that never existed ." Protagonists of the three novels are Li Kao, a sage with a small character flaw and his assistant Lu Yu, known as Number Ten, the ox.

His novel Bridge of Birds ( German: The Bridge of Birds ) in 1985 won the World Fantasy Award.
