Bart Peterson

R. Barton "Bart " Peterson ( born June 15, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American politician. He was from 1 January 2000 to 1 January 2008 Mayor of Indianapolis.

He attended North Central High School, before enrolling at Purdue University. Later he studied law at the University of Michigan. Before he was elected mayor, he was chief of staff of Evan Bayh, former Governor of Indiana.

Peterson beat his female opponent Sue Anne Gilroy by 52 % of the votes and thus became the first Democratic mayor of the city, he was re-elected with 63 % of the vote since 1967. 2003. Peterson, 2007 were his Republican opponent Greg Ballard and thus missed his third term.
