Bartholomäus Keckermann

Bartholomew Keckermann (* around 1572 in Gdansk, † August 25 ( or July ) 1608 ) was a German Reformed theologian and philosopher. He was known for his analytical method.

Life

Keckermann was raised as a son of a merchant in the confessional disputes his hometown on the part of the Reformed. He studied since May 4, 1590 at the University of Wittenberg, enrolled in the summer semester 1592 at the University of Leipzig and switches on October 22, 1592 at the University of Heidelberg, where on February 17, 1595 he earned the degree of Master of Arts. He then worked as a teacher at the Heidelberg Pädagogium, changed in 1597 to Heidelberg Collegium Sapientiae and prepared in this task, the youth from visiting colleges before. He lectured on logic and it was in 1600 transferred to the University of Heidelberg to the chair of Hebrew. In addition, he held private lectures on dogmatics. After he had graduated on March 23, 1602 licentiate, he accepted a call to the Academic Gymnasium Danzig, where he devoted himself as a vice-principal scientific topics.

Keckermann regarded as the founder of the " analytical method ", which is aimed at encyclopedic order of the available knowledge, in the symbiosis between theology and philosophy. He took up the knowledge theories of Rudolf Agricola, by Philipp Melanchthon, by Giacomo Zabarella and Peter Ramus, by summarizing in a rationally defined system. The analytical method was formed from the basic science of all sciences and was the then prototype of science in general. The connection methodological awareness and empirical knowledge accumulation exerted on the encyclopaedic literature of the aftermath of a significant impact.
