Bartlett is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire in the United States. The population was 2,705 according to the census of 2000. Bartlett includes the villages of Glen, Lower Bartlett and Intervale. It is located in the White Mountains, surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest. He is also the home of Attitash winter sports area.

History

Settled by 1769 and incorporated in 1790, the place is named after Dr. Josiah Bartlett, the first Chief Executive Officer, who bore the title of Governor, a representative in the Continental Congress and one of the first, who signed the Declaration of Independence from New Hampshire, where he made his name placed directly under the John Hancock. Dr. Bartlett founded 1791, the New Hampshire Medical Society.

The place has two Covered bridges. The spectacular view of the White Mountains helped the tourism the main source of income. 1954 Opened Story Land, a theme park for young children in Glen. The Attitash winter sports resort was opened in the 1960s and was the largest winter sports area in New Hampshire. The Conway Scenic Railroad, a heritage railway near North Conway maintains, a daily train to the place for sightseeing.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 195 km ², of which 0.01 % water. Bartlett is located in the watershed of the Saco River and the Ellis River. The highest point in Bartlett is Mount Tremont, with 1,028 m above sea level. Mount Parker, with 916 m, is located in the north and the Bear Mountain, 975 m, is situated on the southern border.

Trivia

The television series The West Wing contains a character named Josiah Bartlet, a fictional descendant of the real Josiah Bartlett, is named after the place.
