Base (mobile telephony provider)

BASE is the smallest of the three mobile operators in Belgium. In Germany the brand for mobile services from E -Plus Service GmbH is utilized.

History

The company was founded in 1998 under the name " KPN Orange" as a subsidiary of Dutch KPN and the British Orange and offered from April 2, 1999 under the brand name "Orange" mobile services on the Belgian market to. As part of the acquisition of the British parent company Orange France Télécom whose shares fell to the French telecommunications company. Since France Télécom, however, was already involved the second largest Belgian mobile operator Mobistar, they had to part with one of their investments and transferred in 2000 its 50% stake in KPN. From name for legal reasons, the network was renamed " BASE ". Since then, BASE is fully owned by the Dutch KPN. The brand name " Orange" lives on in Belgium Mobistar. So does that mean multimedia offering Mobi Stars " Orange World ". In the logo, the brand "Orange" is, however, no longer used.

Corporate data and offer

The GSM network (GSM 900 / DCS 1800) BASE reaches 98 % of the Belgian population. In 2007 and the UMTS network of BASE was started. The seller has 2.358 million customers (as of January 2007). In addition to BASE in Belgium there two other Carrier:

  • Mobistar (since 1996, 3,319,224 clients, is one of Orange ) and
  • Proximus (since 1994, 4,311,436 customers, is part of the Belgacom group).

The telephone numbers of BASE catch mostly with 048x. BASE offers UMTS and GSM at the data services GPRS and EDGE.

At BASE include the prepaid provider " Simyo " which specialized in international calls provider " ZONIQ " and " Ay Yildiz ". BASE provides its network also for the Belgian mobile discounter " Dixitel ", " 1Mobile " ( brand of supermarket chain Carrefour) and " NRJ Mobile " (brand of the radio station NRJ ) are available.

The trademark " BASE " in Germany

In Germany, the "BASE " is also used by belonging to KPN Group mobile operator E- Plus as a trade mark for various flat-rate offers. "BASE " was launched on 1 August 2005 and offered as the first mobile operator in Germany flat-rate offers. In addition to the name and logo was adopted. Since 1 February 2010, the former E-Plus stores listed stores the E-Plus Group bear the name Base stores. Since mid-2011 BASE It also occurs as providers of their own terminals which are marketed under the name BASE Lutea. In addition to a smartphone and a tablet including Internet flat rate is offered.
