Başiskele is a district of the Turkish province of Kocaeli, while a district of Büyükşehir Belediyesi ( city municipality ) Kocaeli.

The district is located in the south of the province. It is bordered to the north by İzmit, on the east by Kartepe, to the south by the provinces of Sakarya and Bursa, on the west by Gölcük and to the northwest by the Marmara Sea with the Gulf of İzmit. Along the shores of the Gulf, the E -881, which leads from Bursa to İzmit runs. In the south of the circle lies the mountain range Naldöken Dagi, a part of the mountain Samanli Dağları. In the center of the reservoir Kirazdere Baraji is (also Yuvacık Baraji ).
