Bassy

Bassy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Bassy is at 316 m above sea level. M., near Seyssel, approximately 25 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The farming village extends on a plateau that slopes steeply down to the Rhone, above the mouth of the Rhône in Usses, at the eastern foot of the Jura Mountains, in Genevois.

The area of ​​7.57 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western Genevois. The area to the west and south-west and is bordered by the Rhône, which flows here in a clearly incised into the surrounding valley, and to the southeast by the Talniederung of Usses. Of these rivers, the municipality's area extends northward over a gently rising slope. Below Challonges is 442 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Bassy.

History

The territory of Bassy has been inhabited since the Neolithic period and during the Roman period. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman family names Bassius and means of Bassius estate. In 1793, the previously independent community Veytrens was incorporated into Bassy.

Attractions

The village church, which stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Rhône, dates from the 19th century. Nearby is the original Medieval Castle, with its three towers, which was remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 453 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Bassy is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 656 residents counted in Bassy ). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.
