Battle of Hatfield Chase

The Battle of Hatfield Chase was on 12 October 633, north of Doncaster in England instead. It was fought between a Northumbrian army under King Edwin and a combined force of the Kingdom of Gwynedd under Cadwallon ap Cadfan and Mercia under Penda.

Cause of this conflict is probably one of annexation of the islands of Anglesey and Man by Edwin few years earlier.

The battle ended in a crushing defeat for Northumbria. King Edwin and his son Osfrith fell, his other son Eadfrith Penda was killed later.

Northumbria but did not fall to Cadwallon, but was divided again. Eanfrith, the son of the former king Æthelfrith, returned from the Scottish exile and became king of Bernicia, while Osric, a cousin of King Edwin of Deira was.

Cadwallon continued his fight against Northumbria, which culminated a year later in the Battle of Heaven Field.
