The Battle of the Hulao Pass (虎牢 关 之 战) was a battle in China in the year 190 at the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period.

The warlord Dong Zhuo had the young emperor Liu Bian deposed in 189 and in the capital Luoyang his younger brother Liu Xie raised to the Emperor ( as Emperor Xian), to use him as a puppet. His reign displeased the powerful warlord and governors of the kingdom, a coalition against Dong Zhuo founded at the instigation of Cao Cao, led by Yuan Shao. A year later it came on Hulao Pass for the first meeting of the counterparty, which started in favor of the coalition. Dong Zhuo then moved the capital from Luoyang to Chang'an (now Xi'an ).

From historical sources, no details have survived about the battle. However, the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong in the 14th century adorns with numerous, mostly fictional stories. Thus, the three Eidsbrüder Liu fight Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei Dong Zhuo's united against foster son Lü Bu and General, which finally is forced to retreat. Then he called for Sun Jian, one of the generals of the coalition, to single combat. After a tough duel Sun Jian has to retreat with his troops.
