The Battle of Meßkirch, also: Battle of Mösskirch, on May 5, 1800 one of the bloodiest military clashes in the Second Coalition War.

Overview

The person appointed by Napoleon French Army of the Rhine under the command of General Moreau forced here the Austrian army under General Feldzeugmeister Baron Kray to retreat and thus the evacuation of southwest Germany. Meßkirch thus became a milestone in the process of destruction of the "old order".

Artistic processing

The Battle of Meßkirch forms the historical background for the votive painting in the church pipe village. It was donated by the population of the village in gratitude for the substantial sparing tube village during the fighting. It is the only pictorial representation of the Battle of Meßkirch.

Trivia

The Battle of Meßkirch found as a name entry on the MOESKIRCH Fame plaques of the French army in the Arc de Triomphe in Paris immortalized.
