Bauer Type Foundry

The Bauer's foundry was a German type foundry, founded in 1837 by Johann Christian Bauer in Frankfurt am Main. Frankfurt had indeed lost its leading position in bookstores at Leipzig, but the city was the writings remained.

History

Moving to Bockenheim

1872, the company moved into the still independent Bockenheim and produced from 1878 to 1904 in extended areas near the Bockenheimer waiting.

Weak phase

Among the most famous writings of Bauer's foundry include the Bauer Bodoni, Bernhard Antiqua, Folio, Futura, Contacts and White Antiqua.

New upswing

In today's Hamburger Allee (formerly Moltke Avenue ) a new factory building was built in 1904. It is considered an exemplary example of Bockenheimer industrial architecture of the architect Joseph Rindsfüßer & Martin Kühn in forms of industrial Art Nouveau. The then most modern machines were installed here. Together with the artistic efforts succeeded to the turn and orders rose again. 1914 one had 400 workers and 100 machines.

As a result, the foundry about the year 1916, the Frankfurt foundry Flinsch, which was a global company itself also grew through numerous acquisitions. 1927 an office was opened in New York.

Endpoint

In 1972, the activities at its headquarters in Frankfurt have been hired and transferred to the former subsidiary Fundición Tipografica Neufville in Barcelona, ​​who still holds the rights to many writings. These are sold by the Company, inter alia, Neufville Digital.

Current use of the building

The former building of the Bauer type foundry is a media center today. Advertising and other media companies, such as the heirs and the Institute for Social-Ecological Research are by Walter Luerzer, the private Galli Theater, the theater restaurant Orfeo's and were housed there.
