Baugé

Bauge was an independent commune until 2013 with 6289 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire. The landscape around Baugé is called Pays Baugeois.

On 1 January 2013, the municipalities Baugé, Montpollin, Pontigné, Saint -Martin- Le Vieil - Baugé d'Arcé and were merged into one commune nouvelle named Baugé -en- Anjou. Baugé forms after the merger a commune déléguée in this composite.

Geography

Baugé is located at the mouth of the river in altree Couasnon, about 40 km north-east of Angers. In Baugé is the 10,000 -acre forest of Chandelais, which goes back to the House of Anjou and is considered one of the most remarkable domain forests of France.

History
