Because of tax disputes, the settlement founded as a Bay Township on July 20, 1901. The renaming in Bay Village was completed in the course of urban survey on 1 January 1950.

After North Dover had received 1882 rail connection through the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad, the population grew during the 20th century greatly from 450 inhabitants in 1910 over 3700 (1940 ) to today's 16,000 inhabitants. Agriculture was pushed back through the residential area and ultimately abandoned; significant industry did not come about until now.
